The mission of the Wilin Centre is to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to identify, recruit and support potential and practicing Indigenous artists to study and refine their academic and artistic skills at the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts and the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music at The University of Melbourne.

The project is to relocate the Centre to the former Police Depot building on Southbank Boulevard. The design seeks to amplify 4 key elements:

Building Visibility within the public realm or within public interface with the Arts precinct in which the VCA campus is located;

Create a culturally safe environment for staff, students, research and the Community;

Celebrate Indigenous culture, histories and memories and to embrace the unique connection to the oldest continuing culture in the world;

Demonstrate national leadership in how the exchange of Indigenous knowledge systems is facilitated through teaching, cultural immersion, research, outreach and connections.
